Primary Uses

Alburel 20G is indicated for the restoration and maintenance of circulating blood volume in patients with demonstrated volume deficiency. Specific uses include: 

• Hypovolemia and Shock: To manage blood volume loss due to excessive bleeding, trauma, or surgery.
• Severe Burns: Used to maintain plasma volume after the initial 24 hours of burn treatment.
• Hypoalbuminemia: Treatment for low levels of albumin in the blood caused by conditions like chronic liver disease, severe kidney disease (nephrotic syndrome), or malnutrition.
• Liver Cirrhosis with Ascites: Used to prevent central volume depletion after large-volume paracentesis (removal of fluid from the abdomen).
• Hemolytic Disease of the Newborn: Used in the treatment of severe jaundice in newborns. 

Administration and Precautions

• Administration: It must be administered intravenously by a qualified healthcare professional in a hospital or clinic. The dosage and rate of infusion are carefully monitored based on the patient's condition, weight, and clinical response to avoid complications like circulatory overload.
• Do Not Dilute with Sterile Water: The solution must not be diluted with sterile water for injection, as this can cause a potentially fatal reaction in recipients. It can be diluted with normal saline (0.9% sodium chloride) if necessary.
• Contraindications: Do not use if you have severe anemia, severe heart failure, or a known allergy to albumin preparations.

Potential Side Effects

Serious side effects include signs of an allergic reaction (difficulty breathing, swelling of the face, lips, or throat) or signs of fluid overload (sudden weight gain, shortness of breath, chest pain, swelling of the ankles or feet).
